7 F O R EWO R D Asthma is a serious health problem that affects all age groups across the globe. Children in many countries are being increasingly affected by the condition. Although, with advanced medical care, the rate of hospitalization and deaths have decreased, asthma does still disrupt families by posing a daily healthcare burden on them, resulting in reduced productivity for the child and the parents at school and the workplace, respectively. This book is designed to help parents and children understand more about childhood asthma – how it is diagnosed and treated, and how they can help their child stay well. This is the story of a child named Sameer, an asthmatic, and his parents. It outlines their journey of understanding his condition, accepting the health problem, starting appropriate treatment, and achieving his goal of becoming a successful badminton player in the under-12 category at the district level.
